| Happy trails to you… by DAVID BENZION on 09/27/2010 Dear Readers, It is with a heavy heart (but nevertheless genuine sense of peace) that I have decided to cease publishing LoneStarTimes.com. My reasons are simple and straightforward: For a while now (particularly in the past year) many of the members of our writing team- myself especially–have had to confront both personal and professional challenges that made it increasingly difficult to post regular, original content.
Despite these difficulties, we’ve tried to stick things out in
the hope that enough would change for us individually or as a
collective to make a fundamental difference. It hasn’t, and
realistically speaking there is little reason to expect it will anytime
soon. The proverbial “straw that broke the camel’s back” however recently came in the form of our growing awareness of the legal uncertainty and jeopardy faced by bloggers being sued in mass-fashion over questionable copyright claims. See here and here for more information, if you want to learn more. Put simply, from a risk/reward standpoint even the remote possibility of getting entangled in this type of mess wasn’t worth it. The time to pull the plug had arrived. I do not know if this will be a “forever” decision, or if LST might reemerge in the future, perhaps in a form only now beginning to shake around inside my head. At a minimum though consider this a “deep hibernation”… and in all likelihood, really the end. I want to thank each and every one of your for reading, commenting, “lurking,” sending tips, donating funds and spreading the word over these many years. Should we ever meet, please introduce yourself as a fan of LST so I can thank you personally. I can hardly express my appreciation to my incredible team of volunteer contributors–and I am thinking both of LST’s current members, and those involved in previous years, both on the writing and technical side, whether “full-time,” “part-time” or just helping out in a pinch. It would be impossible to adequately convey just how literally “we couldn’t have done it without you.” It has been a pleasure and honor. I am grateful. Thank you. Be well, David Benzion |
